Rear speakers for 90 240 200

OK, before you say this subject has been done to death, yes I did check the archives, and I can't find the answer to this particular question.

I'm turning over the 90 240 to my teenage son, who of course wants a better sound system. Most of the postings refer to the challenges in replacing the front door speakers; mine are 5" so it sounds like I can either replace with a 5" or a 5.25" with a bit of modifying.

My question has to do with the rear, for which I didn't really find much in the archives. It sounds like it's not even worth bothering with upgrading the 4" rear door speakers, so we're thinking about bypassing them and putting 6" round speakers in the rear deck. Anyone have any experience with this? Is it easier to just run the wires all the way to the radio and then disconnect the rear door speakers? Or is there some convenient spot to tie into those wires?

Any other advice?

    Rear speakers for 90 240 200

I recently added polk 6.5" speakers to the rear deck, and they sound great! Personally, I would just run new wire direct to ensure that there is no loss through bad contacts, etc. It really wasn't that difficult - just remove the fuse cover, thresholds, and rear seat. I ran both sides down the drivers side, and got the wire from Home Depot (16ga. speaker wire). If you're interested in pix, send me an e-mail and I will try to locate them. I would caution to locate the new speakers closer to the seat belt mechanisms to minimize any metal cutting needed. I didn't take this route, and it caused me extra time to get things done right.

    Jeff

On one of my 240's the PO had disconnected the rear door speakers at the b-pillar and then extended the wiring to the rear deck. Probably alot easier than going all the way to the radio. In the rear deck I have some Polk 6x9's which sound great.
