Exhaust system help!! 700 1989

The pipe just before the catalytic converter (as it enters the converter between the converter and what I assume is the oxy sensor) is cracked and is causing exhaust noise. Is there any possible fix for this that dosen't involve buying a new converter or pipe form the header?

All help greatly appreciated in advance.

That downpipe is pretty beefy. Weld it.

until you can get it welded I'd cut a coffee can ,from top to bottom,&apply some silicon sealer from home depot&wrap it around with a couple clamps& tighten them down most of the way,let it harden&then tighten a little more.

Thanks for the advice, between you and aleecat I think I can hold off on a new converter untill spring when it is a little more pleasant to work on it.

Don't think silicon sealer on a downpipe will work. It gets to hot. Muffler patch at any auto parts store.

Thanks for the advice. Don't have a welder, will try the muffler patch. Just bought silicon tape from HomeDepot (says it can withstand 500F) I think that pipe must get hotter than that.

Thanks again.
