The 'New' B16 b almost ready to install 444-544 1958

Here is a photo of my "New" B16b - nearly ready to install in my 444, should only be a few days more!

When I have the orig. engine out I will start rebuilding it and see what is really going on in the #3 cylinder (low compression and oiling - broken ring? Cracked Piston!?!).

Cheers!
OK

Very interesting to see your engine pic, I've just made a comment re the M40. It reminded me of what a pig of a job it was to get the starter motor out when I had burnt solenoid contacts. Being stuck between the bell housing and the filter really means removing the filter which isn't something you do from choice. Having it all tucked away under the exhaust manifold doesn't help, especially when hot! On mine the starter was fitted using studs and nuts which mean that you have to pull the starter out to clear the studs and with the flter in the way that's a problem. I also found that when undoing the nuts, they would jam on the stud and wind that out too which made the situation worse. I remember (it was 40 years ago!) that once I had it all out I removed the studs and used a couple hacksaw blades together in the frame to cut a slot in the outer end of them. This enabled me to fit the starter before fitting the studs. Still needed a stubby or right angled screwdriver but it much reduced the busted knuckles and colourful language.
If you think this mod would help you, best do it before the engine goes in.
Good luck.

Me Too George, 1970 to be exact - 1957 445 with a B16b and 4 spd. installed but was badly in need of work when I got it. I wonder if it is still around somewhere in Oklahoma?
Just like riding a bicycle, easy to pick back up once you get started!

Cheers!
