I thought you said it was bad wires? Now you are thinking the problem is in the Tail light assembly?

unsure what is wrong, but when i run a wire from the pass side taillight to the nonworking one, the thing lights up! think its the circut board or something or that connection, but i jiggle that connection and the foglight comes on. blinkers and everything else works just not the taillights on that side. i bent up the metal tabs and still nothing. the only way i can get them to light up is a hotwire. jiggled the connection and nothing for the taillights. that connection comes apart?

Try shimming where the loom connector goes on to the tailight unit. I used those sheets of brass shim stock that you can buy at most hobby shops and some hardware stores. Cut the shim stock to about 1/8" by 1/2" (enough to wrap around the connector on the light unit--has to be narrow so it doesn't touch the circuits to each side.) This will give a tight fit to the connector. Sounds like you need this on the driver's side.
