Am I S.O.L. on my O2 sensor? 1994 940 NA 900 1994

Greetings,

I'm replacing the O2 sensor in a quest to pass California emissions (and also because it's time--140k miles and a blown head gasket having probably contaminated the sensor.) I picked up a Bosch 13953 sensor, the one used on the ford V8s, with the understanding of the need to splice in the Volvo connector. Based on some discussion on the board regarding its use instead of the pricey direct fit option it seems to be a legitimate choice.

However...after I bought the sensor I found this:

http://www.brickboard.com/FAQ/700-900/EngineSensorOxygenReplacements.htm

It seems that as a California emissions car I am stuck with only the direct-fit or Volvo options, translating to more $$$ than I really have to spend right now. Can anyone conform this, or has anyone with a CA emissions 940 NA had success with the 13953 sensor?

Many thanks in advance.

Matt

        Am I S.O.L.? Don't think so. 900 1994

That FAQ item is interesting. Just when I thought I had a good understanding of O2 sensors. I have not noticed it before. I am not an O2 sensor expert but it is my contention that your sensor should work with or without EGR based on the quasi fact that all Bosch 3 wire sensors are the same, meaning they send the same signal. Only the ends and wire lengths are different. I’d like to see a confirmation my quasi fact.

I just did some searching because I bought one of the Mustang sensors for a 240 non-EGR. Not all O2 sensors are the same. The posting below does not confirm the one you bought will or not work. There is no confirmation that the signals are the same. I think it will end up to be your call on the sensor.

            Javalion,

Thanks for this--you've confirmed my suspicion that there is no clear-cut answer to this question. I'll bite the bullet and wait for the sensor I ordered from FCP and take the AutoZone part back, even though it would save me $85.
