looking at a 240 turbo wagon project car? thoughts? 200

for a while i have been considering a 240 turbo for a project car. i am familiar with the 240s in general and the main issues to look out for. is there anything unique to these 81-85 models? are they generally as sturdy as the later 240s? do they have the same wiring harness issues? any input would be much appreciated. i have never owned or worked on a turbo so want to avoid getting in over my head.

    hello
i have a 85 240 turbo in which i put alot of money into, its a good car now.
the fuel system is much different than NA 240s.
if i was doing this again i would get the newest 240 i could find and swap in a motor/tranny from the newest 940 turbo i could find.
or buy a 240turbo from a brickhead that allready did all the work.
    good luck
    mike

I haven't owned a turbo, but yes, they do suffer from the same wiring harness issues since that is (more or less) the same as the n/a cars. The turbo units themselves may be in need of replacement, and this can run a fair amount of money. Sturdy, yes - it is a 240 after all! I would consider the condition of the interior very carefully, as it is getting very hard to find interior restoration parts (ask me how I know!).

    Good luck!

    Jeff
