Cruise control 200 1989

I hate cruise control. There is something about cruising down the highway without my foot on the gas pedal that makes me nervous. The servo/vacuum canister looks ugly under my hood. It is missing vacum hoses and I do not know where they go anyway. Besides my cruise control does not work, (I think it might be the missing hoses LOL). So I want to get rid of the whole system. This way I can clean up the engine compartment and avoid potential vacuum leaks.

My car is an 1989 Volvo 240 with an automatic

hey joe (pun intended --jimi hendrix)

on long distance traveling (150+ miles for example) they allow the driver some decent relaxation. i've had no issues with vac leaks from my 2 self-installed cc in my 86 & 92 245s.

you are really kidding about the looks of the engine bay, right?

are you asking for help with the vac hookup?

missing hoses will cause a significant fuel-air ratio imbalance most likely leading to a emissions inspection failure, and you are polluting the air needlessly.

let us know if you want help. if not, why not sell your cc to someone who could use it?

    regards,

I keep my engine compartment so clean you could eat off of it. I drive almost 100 miles to work every day and I still do not like cruise control. I do not like the ideal of loose, torn, or missing vacuum lines. Bad for the environment, bad for my engine, bad for my wallet (ga$). What I really need is a good wiring/vacuum diagram for a 1989 240 automatic. This way I can do the job the right way and not turn this into a hack job. I do not want to create new vacuum leaks or electrical shorts while getting rid of my cruise control.

Actually, cruise control saves gas. Which is good for your engine, wallet, and the environment.

Just check all of the vacuum lines (cruise control or otherwise), replace what's not good. After 20 years, I just replace all of the vacuum lines. Cheap and easy. The nylon lines last almost forever, unless mice get hungry...

Also a curmudgeon, but I'll bow my hat to practicality,
        -Ryan

Bentley will not give you the answers you are after. You need the Volvo Green books. That being said, there is only ONE vacuum line going to the vac pump on the firewall despite the fact that there are two nipples, heck, the thing has to blow after all!

I know I searched my Bentley with no luck. The vacuum line is missing on my cruise control. Where does it originate from? I was hoping that I could just block the vacuum at the source and get rid of everything else.

            joseph,
the vacuum diagram is inside the engine bay, right above the grille or LHS (driver's side) strut tower. it's in there some where.

i believe the vac hose from the check valve emanating from the intake manifold goes into the firewall and attaches to the vac reservoir with the 90 deg elbow sticking out.

i'll have to wait until tomorrow to take a look at the setup.

you can certainly disconnect it and hook it up as if it doesn't have the cc.

if you sell the cc, you will need to disconnect a number of things, not impossible to do.

            i'll try to advise tomorrow.

            regards,
            byron
