Dies when taking sharp turns 900 1991

My 1991 944T, with 180k has been having an intermittent problem. When i take sharp turns, not even very fast, the car will sometimes just cut out and die. This has happened a few times now, and they happened while pulling into a parking spot and into my driveway. The engine simply cuts out, the wheel gets hard to turn, all the lights on the dash go on, and i coast into the spot.

Standing at the left or drivers side front fender look behind the rear of the cyl. head down towards the bell housing . The crank sensor sits in a hole at the very top of the bell housing. The outer covering of the wires which is approx. 1/4 in. in dia. usually splits open down in that area. With the engine idling try to move the harness and see if it affects the idle. If you find this to be the problem , FCPGROTON.com sells them cheap and I am currently using theirs in two 940ft`s and one 245 with no problems. ledfoot

I have heard of this at least twice on the board. I think the issue or idea was with the crank sensor wire where it enters the crank sensor shell. Due to the length of cable and the movement of the engine it will show signs of wear and eventually break the wire. When you make a turn or stop you are putting just enough strain on the cable to break the signal. I replaced one that had torn insulation, but still working. I lumped epoxy in the area and use it as a spare. BTY, a spare crank sensor and fuel pump relay are essential glove box items.

You might try wiggling various wires under the hood while the car is idling in park, and see if you can find one that causes the engine to die. I've heard of this sort of problem being traced to the crank position sensor wire grounding out when the car went around a corner.

My battery is secure. Where is the crank position sensor located? I tried looking in the FAQ but couldn't find it. Also, my car suddenly developed a rough idle, could this have to do with a bad sensor?

when your car died after taking sharp turn, after that is the car can be crank and start again immediately?. If yes but the idle slighty rough after that, did you heard the noise from the fuel pump? If you got your fuel tank full gas, are the car don't dies after sharp turn..?.

maybe if your car fuel lines set up with 2 fuel pumps.( 1 in tank fuel pump the other out side fuel tank.) It is looks like your in tank fuel pump dies, so when you taking sharp turn, especialy with 1/2 or 1/4 fuel in tank. the in tank fuel pump have fuel starvation.causing the car dies for a moment.
