Stock exhaust system on a 130 120-130

Well I managed to blow out the back of my muffler on my 130 over the weekend. I have welded it back together several times so I guess it's time to replace the whole thing. I was looking about to see who had what available. Anyone done this recently and have suggestion on who to buy from? vlvworld has them for $147 but I have never bought from them. I can't find a place, I thought it was like scand tech or something that had stock exhuast. Anyone???

Thanks
Chris

    Skandix 120-130

    Skandix.com

I paid about $100.00 for the stock rear muffler, pipe section, resonator, tailpipe, and clamps. It fit pretty good, shipping was very reasonable.

Matthias at Skandix is also fine to deal with. He's more than willing to talk about the reputation that Scan-Tech parts have.

I'm pretty happy with the pipes. If I was not in need to get the car back on the road, I would have wire-brushed it and painted it with high-temp paint to extend it's life.

looks like IPD carries a "Replacement Exhaust Kit" (muff. & tailpipe only) for a buck-o-nine.

    says for 1967-on

i can't recall what the difference is in exhaust config for pre-67 vs. 67-on

Pre-67 has single downpipe = less power.

        ah. right.

does the double downpipe also result in a larger downstream pipe diameter?

(the kit is "muffler and tailpipe only," which, on it's own, wouldn't be affected by the double downpipe, unless there was a corresponding diameter change too)

    Hey Chris
Danny here (I picked up the wheel well at your job last summer)

If you've got a dual downpipe exhaust, I'd recommend the 2" sport exhaust system by Simons available from Skandix. Matthias Volk is the contact guy in this country for them - helpful and might cut you some slack. Shipping was really reasonable when I got mine a couple of years ago. His email is:

    volk@skandix.de

You mentioned stock, so this may not be your cup of tea.

I just looked up their system - It's $100 more than when I purchased mine!! (thanks George Bush) and the link is below:

This is a link to their stock system with dual downpipe:

Danny- I've been toying with the idea of bolting this kit up on my 130. I'm weary of it being too loud though... What's your experience been, in terms of increase (or decrease?) in volume, vs. stock?

      Thanks!

I installed a Simons Sport exhaust last summer on my wagon. Purchased from Olof (Vintage Import Parts) and came with all mounting hardware. Went in without a hitch although the rubber mounting bands were a bear to put on and the wider exhaust pipe would thump on the floor when went over a bump. Solved this by putting a rubber stopper pad on the attachment where the rubber mounting bands attach.

I did not notice a change in noise - perhaps because the noise level from other sources is pretty high already plus wagons are noisy (all the sound echoing around in the back). The sound from the outside is definitely throaty (is there such a word?) and the chrome exhaust tip is a nice cosmetic piece. Performance wise, I think it is more responsive at higher speeds - but that could be in part because of the dual hole exhaust manifold I also installed.

Overall, I am happy with it. It was a fun project as well.

I wouldn't say that it is noticeably louder. Maybe a little throatier, and a bit more of a gurgle at idle, but I like the way it sounds, and it seems to breathe better and I think it increased response/pickup a bit.
Easy to install, good fit, all hardware included.
Maybe others who have gone this route will give their opinion.

I have the Skandix/Simons on ALL my 122s. The fit and finish is without equal. The rare performace upgrade taht actually fits without incident!!! All pipes are aluminized and with as much as 35000 miles on one, no sign of corrosion.

The sound is slightly louder but has a nice healthy burble that doesn't interfere with listening to the radio on the highway. Sounds like an old MGB if you ask me. Not offensive at all... IMHO!
