I've often thought the B18/20 would make a great candidate for a Judson -- had one on a Bugeye Sprite about a hundred years ago -- from 0-60 in 25 seconds to 0-60 in 11 seconds -- and never got less than 30 mpg while, excuse the expression, driving the p**s out of it. Figured the original 40 something HP bumped to maybe 65-70.

I have one in a 122 and have logged 26K thus far. The only problem I've had is that the forward oil seal developed a leak because I'd failed to adequately tighten the supercharger pulley.

Aside from this 'user error,' it's been very reliable and trouble free. Economy with the Weber DCOE is on the low side, but I'm expecting this to improve once I install the Mikuni (hopefully very soon). Starts promptly after sitting for extended periods; starts promptly below freezing. If I'm stuck in traffic for long periods during the summer, it runs on the hot side, but it's never overheated.

It's as easy to drive as a stock 122 - but when you really give it gas, it just plain moves. There's useable torque up to the 7K redline (I'm using stock B20E rods, and they don't like to move faster than that); and it'll keep you pushed against the back of your seat in any gear. It's very, very fast.

I love the thing. It's not the only way to make an old Volvo go fast, but it's absolutely effective.

      Cameron,

I forgot, do you have a standard M41? Do you think they are able to handle the souped up engine? The economy is also one thing i worry about. How bad would you say your gas mileage is, below 20mpg city highway? glad to hear its going well otherwise.

      best

        Hi Ozzi -

I still have the M41 and it's still holding up. It does have a leak, but this isn't a result of being attached to the SC engine. I planned to run it until it proved unsuitable, but I don't think that's likely. Maybe if I drove the car a lot harder than I do... but most of my driving is regular 'traffic' kind of stuff.

Economy with the DCOE is below 20. I've managed to get more than 20mpg on the highway by keeping the revs down. John (Parker) has a supercharged 140 with the Mikuni carb and he's getting over 25mpg with a 4.30 rear and no overdrive, so that's the direction I'd like to go next.

    Hi,
I had a ride in J. Parkers test car a 142 with a supercharger one time. You could easily see that thing sure were faster and more powerful once you got the RPM a little more that idle. I would sure like one for my 142 some time.

Try Steve at 1800philes.com He has a blog on the evolution towards his supercharger. The lower compression stock motors are the best candidates for conversion to a supercharged version in the B20E motor.
