Engine Coolant Temperature Sensors (ECT) 200

Has anyone ever swapped an 026 ECT for an 032 or vice versa? If so, results? I think I need to replace mine, and I have an 026 on the shelf. Can't imagine any damage being done if it's wrong, but if anyone has any input (no pun intended) I'll appreciate it. No time to get a new one before a road trip tomorrow afternoon!

Thanks,

DS

You don't say which years you want to swap to/from, but the quick answer is no–they aren't interchangeable. On rereading, I see you want to swap in an 026 for an 032. I'd say "No", based on the following:

The 026 is a single element sensor reporting to the LH2.2 ECU.

The 032 has dual elements, one for LH2.4 and one for the EZK Ignition CU.

However, it seems that the (more expensive) 032 might work in place of the older LH2.2 (one of the two elements being unused). This is implied in the Bentley, where the same temp chart (241-Fig.10) is referenced for all three LH ECU versions.

Hi Bruce, thanks for your reply. I did give it a shot though, as it was getting on toward dark. Sure 'nuf, the system threw up codes and check engine light immediately. I hate paying double the FCP Groton price for stuff like this, but under the circumstances I had no choice. About a month ago I was wandering through my favorite yard and someone had pulled the intake off a 740 to get at something. The sensor was just sitting there and was obviously new so I snagged it. Just my luck it was the earlier 026.

New sensor did solve the problem. One thing I was happy to find was that a deep 19mm socket will indeed remove the beast. Of course getting one's fat mitts that far under the manifold to put the new one in is interesting.

      take care,

      DS
