I'm looking at an ad for a 92 240 wagon. It states "factory installed electric glass sunroof" and the tinted glass sunroof is visible in the pics. From what I'm reading on these boards there were no factory sunroofs on US wagons, right? I'm guessing if this was a dealer or aftermarket add-on it might be a maintenance nightmare.

I may have just bought that 245 - found it on Autotrader. Just brought it back from an Atlanta wholesaler - and it has a GLASS SUNROOOF - plus it has a bad headliner from water damage.
Oh, man ...now I am in great ANXIETY! Have I bought something that cannot be fixed, and will be a problem from here on out?

Hope someone here can give me some options and ideas. The car is in really great shape, other than the headliner.

I may be able to return it on Monday.

You can always seal it.

Many old cars with sunroofs and moonroofs have a bead of clear silicon around the opening. They are sealed shut, but they don't leak.

Usually, this would not have been necessary if the owner would have kept the drains free of debris, or replaced the drain tubes when they shrank and pulled out of their holes.

Definitely NOT factory... period. That being said, the factory sunroofs on the 244 were "screen doors" after a decade or two, so the aftermarket might be better than original but doubtful. Also, to put a sunroof in a 245, the structural roof cross members had to be cut or at least shaved... so if you buy it make sure you don't roll the sucker over.

Just for info,
..on page 48 of the manual that came with this car - 92 245 - it shows a pix of a crank sunroof ..and says:
Sunroof (certain models)
The sunroof is operated by a handle located between the sun visors ....etc.

I did not expect it, but there it was - even listed in the rear index.

I know this does not apply to my glass model made by ASC, but it does give me hope that the leaking is something that can be addressed.

The owner's manual is generic, and applies both sedans and wagons.

Certain models is not a wagon.

I am sure you are right. The picture does not look to be exactly like my 240 - rear view mirror mounting different. Actually it may be a drawing.

Still I have hope that ASC can correct any issues I have with this one.

I have another brochure in my file that is Wagon-Specific. I did not realize that there would be a difference between the sedan and wagon.

In the 1991 wagons, the sunroof was optional on the 7, standard on the 9, but not available on the 2 series.

The wagon I looked at back in 1990 that had a sunroof must have been aftermarket. It looked perfect.

Does that mean that the glass sunroof in the 92 245 possibly could be factory - or if not - a dealer installed item?

It looks factory, ceptin now I realize it does not have drain limes like my 760.

I found a folder in the owners manual with warranty info and such. Looks to be a well made product by a reputable company.

Maybe I am not in as bad a pickle as I thought.

No answer to your specific question, but here is what I know.

The sunroof in my '90 244 was metal and it was crank.

I have the 1991 Accessories catalog that I pulled off the rack the day I bought my 245 new in January of 1991. It says that the sunroof went from hand crank to power for the 1991 model year. For 1991, only a metal sunroof was available.

I have never seen a glass sunroof on a 240.
