Leaking A/C compressor 700

Has anyone attempted to pepair a laking A/C compressor.
Mine works for maybe 2 weeks , just fine before losing refrigerant.
The dye test showed the compressor leaking at each end flange.

I got a quote for a 4seasons replacement that included a $20 core charge
so someone is rebuilding them.
The local industrial bearing and seal supply house does list a variety of seals
to handle R12/R134 refrigerant. They are about $8.00 each

Has anyone had a compressor apart?

Bill

Try in Tucson,AZ. They have compressor kits or you can send them your compressor and hoses for rebuilding. Hose rebuilds are about half dealer price.

What's the name of the Tuscon place? Do they have a website with any info?

I'm looking at changing out ANOTHER AC pipe the critter that goes
from the compressor to the evaporator pipe, and see that the clamps are beat up
too, One of the clamps was chaffing at a hose, gotta get new clamps too.

It's good to know about the option for replacement pipes.

Thanks, Bill

If you are having compressor problems , don't fool with trying to fix it, you'll just bring yourself more aggravation. You can buy a brand new compressor from www.nostalgicairparts.com for less than what most places get for a repainted..oops, I mean rebuilt one, and if you need new rubber on a hose assembly, send it to him and he'll put new rubber on it for a fraction of what most places charge. Heck, he does it for less than what I buy the bulk hose and fittings for when I make them here.

Thanks for the info Robert.
The pipe with the hose is OK but doesn't look the greatest.

If I yank the compressor and pipe with hose, where can I find
fittings to seal up the loose ends to keep things clean?

Is there a source for the special clamps for the pipes other than Volvo?
One of them had the rubber insert go bad and it cut through the pipe to
the condenser. I'd guess it's a good idea to use new clamps.

Thanks, Bill

The hoses should al have crimp connectors on them. Any good ac shop can replace the rubber and crimp it on with new crimp collers. Some places get silly and want to cut the ends and weld new tips on, I just cut the old crimp collar off with a cutof wheel, slip the new hose and collar on and crimp away.
If it has what look like funny hose clamps on it, it's been repaired before. Napa carries repair fittings with heavy duty worm gear clamps that can be used successfully, but they won't last as long as a crimp fitting, they usualy start to seep after a couple of years. If you just have one of those and want to replace it the same way, email me a picture of it with measurements, I have a bunch of those things I got in with a buisness buy out with a bunch of other ac fittings that I'll never use, I may have one to fit.

I believe this is the company that you are looking for:

http://www.ackits.com

They even host an A/C board to post questions.

Check them for a compressor; Diesel Kiki compressors aren't the best to begin with and 4Seasons rebuilt compressors have a high failure rate from what I have read on the 'net. I believe these folks can set you up with a better NEW compressor (Seltec or Sanden) that will be a bolt in for the Diesel Kiki for less than $200.

If you have the Diesel-Kiki compressor, you can buy a gasket/o-ring kit specific to these compressors.

Have had a few of them apart and resealed them with no problems so far.

Replace the shaft seal and you should be good for quite some time.

Not a hard job once you have it on the bench.

Hope this helps,rcs

Thanks RC,

I don't know who the manufacturer is for the compressor, I'll check.
Who sells the rebuild kits, and have you heard any sucess stories,
or otherwise about those kits?

Thanks, Bill
