945's turbo longevity 900

I have a 1993 945 Turbo and it currently has 192,500 miles on the odometer. The turbo is still working and its the original! Is this pretty unusual or do others have stories like this? from what i have read on bb, turbos generally conk out after 100k miles

Thanks

Mine: '93 945T. 236,000 miles, and working flawlessly.

(It's had Mobil-1 since it rolled off the dealer's lot in '93.)

945's turbo longevity 900

I have a 1994 940T with 193,500 miles on the odometer and the original turbo is still working fine. The only problem I have is a small oil leak at the seal between the turbo oil return line and the engine block. I figure that I will eventually get rid of the car when the turbo gives out which I hope is another 100,000 miles away.

Regards,

Two years ago I purchased a '92 940 Turbo from the original owner -- his son-in-law had overheated it big time, warping the head so it didn't run. He said the turbo was original and I assumed it would need a rebuild (I've done many early ones) and was happily surprised when I disassembled it all to install the head I rebuilt--the turbo had zero play and no indication of any problem. It all went together and worked perfectly. I put an additional 15k before the car was wrecked while parked.

The later low pressure, water cooled turbos last much longer than the earlier oil-cooled units. In addition, synthetic oils will make them last even longer. 200k is highly likely. However, if a rebuild is needed, it costs only $350 or so plus the labor to remove and install the turbo.
