Loss of coolant warning light and alarm for 240? 200 1993

I just got the VERY cute little liquid level switch (sensor) today from McMaster-carr. I decided to install the loss of coolant light and buzzer on my 91 745 turbo after the scare I have a few days ago. My thermostat broke and stay shut causing the engine to overheat rapidly and blow half of the coolant out of the reservoir cap. I caught it soon enough not to have anydamage to my engine. However, it's a very scarry situation to be in and I don't want to risk my red block again. As most of you know there is a nice write-up of the installation procedure for the system in 740/940 FAQ. I'll put it on my 740 ASAP and try to figure out how to put one on my 93 245 (my other precious possesion!). Anyone out has done this to their 240 yet? Any advices? Thanks. Erwin

Hello Erwin,

Try this: Pictures could be better, but you'll get the idea.

Thanks for the information Marty and Mike. That's exactly what I'm looking for. aside from the blinking LED or 2W factory light, I would still put a buzer in line. I just can't imagine how I would forgive myself if I fry my engine by ignorance. Erwin

All of my cars have a low coolant sensor circuit in them. The first one I did I put a light and a buzzer in the circuit.

It did not take long for me to disconnect the buzzer. When the system is cold before the coolant expands in the reservoir it does not take much movement of the car to splash the coolant around and switch the circuit on and off rather rapidly.

Perhaps it will work out for you but you might consider placing it somewhere with easy access in case you change your mind on the buzzer.

Randy
