Can anyone tell how many revolutions per mile the speedometer cable turns? 120-130

Can anyone tell me how to calculate many revolutions per mile the speedometer cable turns, and/or the output shaft to a M41/J-type. I know that there is different cable drive gears.

Paul

Thanks!

I did find something that stated that all speedometer drive gears are standardized to rotate at 1000 revs per mile.

I also I found how to figure out the revs per mile of the output shaft of the transmission. Basically, the number of rotations of wheel size per mile (->number of inches in a mile/circumference of the wheel size) * rear gear ratio = drive shaft revs per mile. For a 122 with a 4.1 rearend, and 165R15 tires:

800 * 4.1 = 3,300 revs per mile

The 800 was 63,400 inches per mile divide by 79.2 inches of the circumference of the 165R15 tires.

"800 * 4.1 = 3,300 revs per mile"

...and therefore - with an M40 in 4th gear - 3300 engine rpm at 60 mph. :)

Yup! That's what I get too! and with a OD (0.79 ratio) it would be 75 mph at 3300rpm.

Paul,

The speedometer on the 122S is calibrated for .63 revs/meter. 630 revs per kilometer works out to 58 revs per mile.

I sent more information in an email.

Shannon!
Czech your math - 630/km /.624km/mile = around 1009/mile.
