No starting, good spark. Please HELP! 700

91 745 turbo, please HELP quick! Thanks
Car is down, not starting for the first time. She’s been giving me warnings on and off lately. Some day it takes a few cranks to start her, most of the days just perfect.

Observations:
• Engine cranks, turned over a few times, then quitted, good spark

• Key at on position – fuel pump turns 1.5 second, tried different fuel pump relay, FPR fuel filter replaced brand new a few months ago.

• Disconnected fuel line at the rail and put in a bottle. Good gas flow when pump turns, no fuel pressure gauge to measure fuel pressure.

• Spark plugs dry, no fuel odor at the rear

• ECU has been throwing 232 for a while (months) probably not related, no other code at position 2 or 6

What else, ECU or injectors? How to test injectors my self? Erwin

You should get a decent shower of fuel when cracking the fuel line open.

I could fill a cup but my fuel pump was no good.

If its cranking and spark plugs are dry....says it all.

Try a shot of ether down the FPR vac line, if it fires then its either most likely the injector relay or pump/s.

A quick way to check if your problem is RSR related is to remove it from the connector and use a wire to connect the two heavier wires on the female connector.

If it starts with this jumper in place you have determined the relay is bad; which may only mean carefully removing the cover (you'll have to remove the silicone sealant) and resoldering the circuit board.

Don't leave the jumper in place to try to permanently bypass the relay as you will discharge your battery over time.

Good spark with dry plugs points to the RS relay, which should put voltage to the (turbo) injector resister pack as soon as the key is turned on. (The ECU controls the injectors on their ground side.)

I'm not sure where the RS relay is on the turbo cars, but you can check for Key-On voltage at any injector plug pin 1. Pin 1 is on the right as you face the plug with the spring lock up. I think the voltage should only be about 4.0V from the resistor pack.

I tried again this afternoon without replacing the RSR. It did start, barely and runs rough. I tried the RSR from my wife's 93 245. It starts every time. However, it's still taking longer than what I like, like 3 seconds. Anyway, I think that you guys aniled it right on the RSR. Thanks a bounch! Also, thanks for those good practical ideas for testing fuel pump and RSR. I thought that I was the only not so safety-minded grease monkey, dare to pump gas right into a open cup. I'm gald I'm not alone. Thanks again!!! Erwin

No starting, good spark. Please HELP! Follow up and wrap up 700

Again, the car satarts normally now. I does not take longer crank as I said in my last message anymore. Also, I got a big bonus (supprise): by replacing my radio suppression relay, my ever anoying code 232 went away. Now, it's been 2 days already, it did NOT come back. Again, Thanks all of you who offered kind, prompt help. Erwin
