I seem to remember that someone has installed a different rear end in a 544 other than the original type but can't remember what kind. What kind of a vehicle did it come out of, any problems with the width, and did the old wheel rims still fit? Paul

hi i had thesame problem i used a rear for a little gmc pickup its the same width just have to change the spring purchases

I have an 1800 es in mine but it has the later bolt pattern. Width an 1/8" difference.

Volvo 1800ES disc and yes the bolt pattern changed but U changed the front too so I could have "Turbo" wheels

Hey , is the 1800 rear the same width as the 544 or is it like the 140 ? Thanks , Larry

It's a little narrower than the 140 and I have fit it with 6" turbo wheels and no flares
