stalls on throttle 200 1985

I'm kind of in a pinch. My 245 broke down on the interstate 30 miles from home. Before it went kaput, it was hesitating when I would step on the gas (ie trying to maintain highway speeds). Then I heard a pop/bang and it stalled on the highway. It was not doing this the day before.

There's good fuel pressure. The engine idles, but stepping on the gas stalls it. We also tried bypassing the Mass Air Flow Sensor. Same thing. Any ideas?

I've got it at a truck stop now and I'm just trying to get it back home before it gets impounded.

Any help advice would be great.

PS The kicker is somebody stole my catalytic converter while it was on the side of the road.

I replaced the AMM with a new one and was able to get it home at highway speed, although quite loud without the catalytic converter. The wife took it this morning and its hesitating when we step on the accelerator. She couldn't get it over 15mph. Any further ideas? Is it the computer? I'm lost

Thanks

You might want to get the cat replaced and go from there. You could try some electrical contact cleaner on the AMM connector. Dan

That did the trick! My ears are still ringing from the drive home. Thanks!

Unfortunately, I can't help with the stalling problem. However, who takes the time, and what kind of donkeybutt, steals a catalytic converter off of an old volvo?????

Disconnect the AMM (key off) does it idle fine? If so AMM is bad. Dan

Parked on the side of I-5, no less. I was only gone 4 hours.

Say no to drugs.

When I disconnected the intake hose from the mass air flow sensor it idled fine, but stepping on the gas stalled it.

Any other things I can try? Its still at the truck stop and I'll be headed down there soon.

Taking it to a shop is not an option at this point.

You need to leave the AMM installed and just remove the electrical connector with the key off. If it starts and idles fine you need an AMM it is now running in the limp home mode. It can be driven but it will not be normal operation. Go gentle on the throttle and you can get it up to some speed, not sure about highway speed. Dan

I'll give it a shot. Thanks!
