89 240, please help me diagnose fuel problem 200

My 89 240 is having a devil of a time lately. I have to keep my foot on the gas to keep it running or else it shuts off. The last time I drove it (a few days ago)it reached a new level of ineptness. When it shut off it would not restart until it rested for a while (like 30-45 minutes.) Prior to the last couple of weeks the car would idle, but very poorly, the engine was pulsating and shaking at idle. Now it just won't idle at all. Any ideas what is causing these problems?

Disconnect the electrical connector to the AMM (key off), start it. Does it idle fine? If yes you need an AMM. What codes do you get on the OBD module? Dan (pageda, not paul Driver of Inga)??

From the looks of it, I do not have a fuel problem but I have a sensor problem. Thanks for the tips guys. I will unplug the AMM sensor tomorrow and see if it is the problem.

you msut rule out any vacuum leaks,,,It maybe that you need to replace the amm or clean it w/special junk for it.
You may also need another knock sensor that would cause it to run like sh@t&shut off for a while too.
read thru the FAQ's
