will a TAB tool style tool work on other bushings? 200

HI ,
Building & using a TAB tool was so easy I was thinking about building tools similar in design to the TAB tool, but resized for other bushings....specifically the Panhard rod, reaction rods & front of the trailing arm....

But the big question seems to be: it possible to generate enough force to press out the bushings with this type of tool?
John

    Good question!

I was wondering if I could do torque and track rod bushings with a bolt through a pair of impact sockets (one to "push" and one to "receive")... lock it down, and pull out Mr. Impact Wrench! :-)

With a Type 8 bolt ( fine thread, strong material) you can crank down pretty good without stripping it out. As long as the Bolt will fit through the Bushings, yeah, you can build to suit of diameter bushings.

Yes, it is possible. I did it. They worked.

Then I had to buy a press from Harbor Freight to do my rear wheel bearings. A press is a LOT easier for pressing out those other bushings.

Having used the Harbot Freight press on the front trailing arms with the proper drifts, homemade of course, these bushings have been the most problematic, challenging the force of the 12 ton press, alignment needs to be perfect to prevent distortion to the trailing arm and welds around the sleeve within the arm.
The screw press with concentric drifts would be a much better tool, as this is what Volvo uses. A screw thread of the size of the bolt with fine thread will have much greater force applied than the 12 ton press.
