96 contour shifts kind of hard into 2nd. I feel a light clunk and jerk, only does so with easy light driveing and in bumper to bumper traffic. if i gas it, it don't do it. goes through the rest of the gears fine. also, o/d off light began flashing on highway. whats that mean? Is the trans gona poop on my leg?

Is that a yellow Gear flashing at you? That is the transaxle error on a Ford, the check engine light may also come on.

Go pull the codes an find out what kind of error but a hard shift is most likely not going to be a speed sensor or something like that on a blue oval that old.

May be time for the radiator cap trick. Take the old one off, hold it up in the air and then drive a new car under it.
