Volvo 760 Windows work part time 700 1998

I have a problem that's driving me crazy. The windows on my 1988 760 work only part time. Sometimes normally, and often after you start it they won't work for 10-20 minutes and then start working fine.

I see that fuse 14 is for an overdrive relay for power windows and sunroof (though I have no clue what the windows have to do with the overdrive)

Fuses are not burning out, and the fact that this is part time is so confusing! Any help would be really appreciated. I should also note that while the windows don't work the power seats, and sunroof also don't work.

Hi Gav,

I had the same problem with intermittant windows.
It was the window relay and or loose relay socket lugs.
You can get at the fuse block when the windows dont work
and pull/poke the window relay and see if that gets em going.
(Front row, leftmost relay in back of the ashtray)
you can carefully pop the cover and resolder bad connections
in the relay.

Good Luck, Bill

Thanks guys. It seems it was the relay. I pulled out the J relay (windows) and opened it up. It seemed OK inside so I cleaned it, and the plug holes up with electrical contact cleaner and all seems to be working now..
