load fuel pump 200

Is it normal to hear the rear fuel pump? Is it on it's way out?

No, it is not normal to hear the pre-pump unless you have the fuel filler cap off and your ear in the filler neck opening. What is more common is to hear the main pump howl and whine as it cavitates due to a failing pre-pump. Make sure that the noise that you are hearing is not that.

Maybe it's because my '92 240 is a wagon, but I got the car 8 years ago with 115K on it and I've always heard a fuel pump sound, but only faintly after startup. I was alarmed at first and anticipated pump failure, but it's been the same for 100K now so I think at least for *my* car it's normal. YMMV.
