    I just use a 1" iron pipe plug. The square lug on the end is just about the right size. A little filing and it was a perfect fit. Then you can use a pipe wrench to grab it and release tention. There is a hole that you can then stick an appropriate sized allen wrench in to hold it in the released position so that you don't have to fight the belt while holding the wrench. The pipe plug is small enough to store in a tool box for later reuse.
