springs 120-130

does anyone know if the front or rear springs from a 140 will work on a 66 122s & the difference it would make on ride quality or change how high it sets. thanks, Tim Strickland Elkview West Virginia

As already stated, the rear springs won't fit.

The fronts from a 140 are very close in diameter to the 120 spring, so they will fit. Further, the spring *rate* for a 140 front spring is 12 or 13% higher than the 120 spring, according to the shop manual specs. This means the car would ride just a tad stiffer in front (and understeer a little more, provided no other changes are made).

If the two springs are the same uncompressed length, the front ride height difference would be nearly imperceptible. Unfortunately, that info is not directly available in the shop manuals. However, based on the "loaded height" info in the manuals, I would suspect the 140 springs are in fact a little longer, so the car will most likely sit a little higher; I'd guess a maximum of an inch, probably less. Of course, if either the old or new springs are significantly "sagged" from their original manufactured lengths, any estimations of comparable ride heights are obviously going to be terribly inaccurate.
