Confused - do 740s have a CEL? 700 1987

Hi folks,

Just so I don't mislead anyone, this is sort of a rhetorical question.

Noticed today that I don't seem to have a check engine light on my dashboard, nor even a place for one. Is this true on all 740s? I'm... confused. How else do you know that you need to 'check your engine' (O2 sensor, electrical, etc.)?

Thanks,

Ari

Your 87 with the Bosche LH2.2 fuel injection system has no CEL nor will it store fault codes. That did not happen until 89 on the 740 when they went to LH2.4.

There is much info in the FAQ section on proper maintenance of the engine. There is a test point for a test light connection. When flashing indicates good mixture at idle and therefore confidence in the MAF, fuel pressure, O2 sensor etc.

Yours doesn't; others do.
LH2.4/EZ-116K has it, LH2.2/EZ-117K does not.
