A/C Question - Orifice Tube or Expansion Valve? 200 1988

Which does my '88 244 have? Having some work done since I have low suction and low high pressure readings at the compressor. Troubleshooting guide says my orifice tube or expansion valve is probably plugged.

Your system has an expansion valve which is located on the passenger side of the center dash stack. Note, this is a common failure. Assume that you will have to replace the receiver dryer and vacuum the system down once reassembled.

Interesting - so did the orifice tube show up when they improved the AC system in '90-'91?

A/C Question - Orifice Tube or Expansion Valve? 200 1988

The expansion valve did disappear in that timeframe and was replaced by the orifice tube. That being said, I've seen earlier york based compressor systems that had both an orifice tube and an expansion valve, so go figure!
