The door won't open from the inside or outside. I need to get inside the door I think to figure out what is wrong. Hover, the door panel is blue and I would hate to break it as finding another blue one will be difficult in my area. Is their another way? Thanks for any info

My son locked the child safety lock on my left rear door while I was working on the outside latch giving me the same problem. I took the inside handle apart and pried the speaker cover off (same color for all interiors) like I would to take the door panel off, then got inside the car and lifted up on the panel until the clips on top cleared the sheetmetal. I was able to pry the top of the door panel back and reach inside and back to flip the latch from the inside and I didn't damage the door panel in the process. My only problem seems to be that it doesn't want to stay attached at the top now so every now and then, I have to pull the clips back over the sheetmetal and reseat them.

I had that problem here but was lucky that I could get a new door panel at the boneyard for $5. It's hard to understand the problem until the door panel is off.

Maybe this will help, There is a metal link about the diameter of a coat
hanger from the lock button to the latch mechanism. About half way there is a
plastic clip in the door that the link snaps into. The clip gets worn and sloppy and the link pops out. THEN, when you pull the lock lever the links bows
or buckles and doesn't release the latch.

I don't know how you can remove the door panel with the door stuck shut.
If you can access that link to prevent it from buckling they door will
open right up. It's a good idea to premptively replace those clips, nearly
free at Volvo parts.

Maybe you can cut a small access hole in the center of the door trim
over the door latch to hold that link?

You're going to need to take the door panel off. Not too hard a job. Remove the clips along the bottom, take the handle apart and but don't forget the screw in the corner of the speaker opening.

I've got a 1990 740 and my right rear door would not open. A friend at work (mechanic) was able to open it. I'm not sure how he did it but next time I see him I'll ask and post. Should be by the end of the week.
