lights ... 200 1986

I have a friend in Belgium (sends me great beer on occasion) and he has a friend in Sweden. Between the two of them, I'm hoping to find some euro-spec headlights for my 86 245.

What part numbers should I have them look for if buying new or from a parts supplier? Anything specific to look for if they scrounge used?

Don't know what they will find, but figured it is worth a try to get the glass lenses and better light.

Also, any other goodies the European cars have that we didn't that I should have them look for?

Thanks,

Jeff

lights ...S70 and V70 also had grim headlights in USA 200 1986

The S70 and V70 from 1998-2001 also had compromised DOT headlights. The genuine European ones were much better but difficult or impossible to find in USA (at least I never found a vendor). Finally a friend bought some for me in Sweden and brought them home in his luggage. The final price was high but they were a great safety upgrade, especially when driving on rural roads well-populated with deer and possums. Fortunately, installation was easy and the stock wiring was set up for the European units, complete with the low-wattage city light.

Volvo part nos. .... 200 1986

Cibie headlamp Volvo part numbers 1372394-5 & 1372395-2

There's some discrepancy with the parking lights, though:
I have both 1312755 & 1312756
and also 1312757 & 1312758
(note the last digits' sequences--maybe there was an update)

You'll also want the trim pieces ("eyebrows"), but there are two versions, chrome and black -- you have to decide (it probably depends on the color of your grille).

By the way, if you can afford it, don't settle for JBAuto brand lamps -- get the Cibie (it's genuine Volvo). I have both brands -- I got the JBAuto first (for my wife's '93) and although much better than OEM (US market) plastic lamps, they're of poor quality (poor fit, poor action of the adjusters/aimers, and the rear studs, pressed in, will fall out!). So I got the Cibie brand for my second car (my own '93) as a birthday gift from my daughter who went to Europe on a business trip -- they are far better, with smooth adjusters, and studs that are molded into the plastic and cannot come out.

If you can get glass head lights, they have those wiper motors and blades that clean the headlight. You do not want that on the plastic ones.

Just a thought,

Regards,

Paul

These are glass, with signals for $230. Has anybody tried these, or know anything about them?
