I found an '83 Diesel that's being parted out with an M46 + all pedals, shifter, driveshaft, etc. but I need to know if it'll fit my '83 with the B23F, or would I have to get a non diesel transmission to mate up with the other parts? I need to find out by tomorrow, as I called him today, and he's taking the car to the junkyard on Tuesday. Also, do the rear axles bolt into the differential? I think he wants to torch them to get it out of the rear of the car.

The gearbox is the same, you only need to switch the bellhouse, as the starter of the diesel sits on the other side.
The rear axle is one piece, if you torch the axle halves off it is useless. If he's really into torching he can cut through the trailing arms, brake lines and reaction rods and unbolt the shocks. The axle will drop with springs still attached.

Keep in mind the rear end on that diesel is going to have a different gear set than any gas burner. They won't match up very well.

The axle tubes are not replaceable.

Buy your boy a bottle, then take the time to do it right and have the parts for spares.

Get the propellor shaft too - they vary with different gearbox applications.
Also the overdrive relay etc.
