AC Changeover from R12 to Freeze 12 200 1982

My R12 AC isn't cold anymore so I suspect I need new gas.Now I don't want to do an expensive changeover to R134.Now I heard about changing over to Freeze 12 which basically involves only putting the new gas in and seems to be quite cheap about $50 which includes fillfittings and gas.Is there anybody who has experience with this stuff?

I did a dirty refill with freeze 12 , Bought it from ebay for 38-40 bucks .
It is not great but cools so the system is better than before . The kits usually have a hose for refilling which fits on R12 fittings . I poured in all the three cans though it still shows bubble in the viewing glass on receiver dryer. so far so good.

Same here. My next addition of refrigerant to my 1988 244GL will be Freze-12. I have the needed side-tap connector, just need the time to get out and get under to put the stuff in.

Before investing, I too checked on the BB. Got a strong positive from rhaire in Florida. He has a bevy of bricks and long experience with it, all good.

Go for it, and let us know how it works for you. Note that it may need a lesser amount that the R-12.

F12 is great, I ran a combo of F12/R12 for a year and a half and it worked like a champ. You only use 80% of the amount of R12 so just a bit over 3 12oz cans is all you need. You will not be able to get a pro to pull a vacuum or evacuate the system once the F12 is in there, and that is about the only downside. You do need to have or know someone with a license to buy it.

I only went back to R134 because the compressor locked up and my buddy who had the license to buy the F12 let it expire. You can get a R134 system running pretty well but you need a new compressor, an expansion valve, and dryer.

However if the compressor is not converted and still has good seals, and you can get the system leak free. F12/R12 is still the best option IMOH.

Unless something has changed you don't need a section 609 cert to buy freeze-12.

I don't use my AC that much, and my system was already empty due to cracked hose. I found freeze-12 to be the least expensive option. Using it in my stock setup is not super ice cold, but better than nothing when temps are 95-110F.

The biggest problem I had is when I changed the low side fitting. The valve core inside the new fitting was loose - make sure the cores are tight inside the adapters they send you with the kit.

In the Texas you need a license for F12 or R12. At least the two places I tried to buy it, not sure about the rest of the USA. You can get all the R134 you can pay for. Really wanted to use F12 when the compressor died, but no way to get my hands on it. Did not try a online source, maybe that would have worked.
