Temp gauge numbers.

If there were temp numbers, in F. where would they be located along the dial.
For instance what temp would the dot in the middle represent, and so forth.
Has anyone thought about this?
My guess is the middle dot would be about 190 F. About 3/4 ways would be about 200 F., and just before the red about 212 F. Does that sound about right?

Comments?

L.

Temp gauge numbers.

Thanks

My system has been flushed and filled. Radiator rodded. New gmb water pump. new 87 f. thermo. Fan is good. System is tight. The comp board has been removed, and the board jumped.

The needle on the gauge stays in the center, or just below, until a hot day(90+)then it will creep up to about 9:30 or 10:00 in traffic(a/c on), and then back down toward the center on the open road.

Id just like a better idea of the temperature range that Im operating in. And what is considered normal.

My owners manual says the temp is good as long as its in the black. And not to worry unless it goes often into the red. But that would mean, if its correct, and you are correct, that 260 F(or therebout) is part of the normal temp parameters.

I sure would like to be able to visualize what points on that dial represent, and understand exactly what they mean.

Thanks Dave

Midway is normal operating temp, which in theory is your thermostat temp. If it goes to the red it is well over 212 maybe 260. 212 is not overheated, because of the pressure on the system it can operate when the engine is well over 212 without boiling.
