Timing belt rubbing against cover 900 1993

I changed the timing belt two weeks ago.
The two spacers that hold the timing belt cover
away from the belt had broken and fell out when
I removed the cover.

The timing belt is now rubbing against
the cover.

Is this a common problem?

What is the solution?

Oil and heat will take its toll on the plastic covers and the spacers will fall out during removal. I think I had to replace all 3? pieces of plastic on my 1993. BTW, I got the cheapos from FCPG.

3 things come to mind which might cause this problem, presuming the covr is on with the correct spacers.

1. there are 2 washers, one on either side of the crank sprocket which must be installed in a specific manner. it is self evident when you see them.

R they both in place correctly?

2. when you put the tensioner on the block and removed the nail holding the tensioner from placing pressure against the belt you MIGHT have pulled slightly the tensioner body AWAY from the block. the tensioner has a PIN on it which MUST fit flush up against the block and in the slot in the block.

IS IT?

and 3rd

since it is a 1993 the sprockets require a ROUND tooth belt. not a square tooth belt. DID U GET the wrong belt?

The belt is exactly the same as the one that I replaced.
The tensioner is in correctly.

Everything looks the same as when I changed the belt 30,000 miles ago.
the only difference is that the spacers that are an integral part
of the inner timing belt cover are gone.

The lower one was broken last time. I superglued it. It was coming off again.
The upper one fell out when I removed the cover to change the belt this time.
I didn't attempt to glue them again. I didn't want them coming off and
interfering with the timing belt.

Is there something that I can use to replace these spacers with?

try this 900 1993

since the spacers only hold the cover at a specified distance from the block and are in no real way structural i would find some very small diameter pvc pipe and cut it to 1/2" or whatever length you need.

since they are tubes the hole for the bolt is already there.

PVC tubing is a good idea.

What bolts?

Hi,

I'm assuming the belt is running on course and not sliding off the tensioner, like most of us have seen before at one time or another.

I haven't tried one yet, but there's a temptingly cheap aftermarket timing cover for the B230. It is available, I guess, because they are so often falling apart and hard to find in good shape on a junker.
