Brand new, used 95 940 900 1995

Been a while since I've posted. Both 960's are gone, but have been replaced with a 94-850, 98-V70XC, & a recently purchased 95-945. The 960's served us well and I really miss owning/driving one. The cross country lasted a year & a half before the head gasket went south. I missed a couple critical signs on the intial very cold Feb. morning where I 1st inspected it. Had I noticed that the valve cover (oil pump, & oil pan) had been RTV'd on instead of the volvo sealer, I would have walked. It had the noisy lifter syndrome common to the 960's & my impression was that it simply needed a real driver to get the engine loosened up & the lifter noise would go away. I was wrong.

Came across a nice non-running 95-945 that needed a fuel pump and an intake gasket. Bought it from a friend, was his wifes car & after it stalled out on her a couple times on her they replaced it. He's a BMW guy & really knew nothing about Volvo's. Replaced those 2 items & have been driving/enjoying it trouble free. It is largely intact as the day it left the factory, a big bonus. Needs some attention that any 160K brick would need. All in all, a very good buy. I see this one as a keeper, mostly due to its simplicity, condition, & it's rust free. Although, I would trade it for another nice 960, I miss the extra power from the 2.9L engine.

Would be interested in any green manuals(especially electrical) for the 940, have a few from the 960 for trade.

After the Cross Country gets an engine replacement the 850 will be sold, the RWD 940, hands down, trumps the FWD 850.

I'll try not to be gone for so long. I also own a 635CSi BMW and spend most my time on those sites. Good to see some of the old faces still around. As they say "Volvo for Life".

Hmm, by a chance are you on bigcoupes.com. I seem to reconize a post like this from that page...I could be wrong. Anyway it sounds like a great deal.

Yes, I am on BigCoupe, but I don't post there much. I did say something about it on BimmerForums. Keeping with the theme of my screen name here (dm960), on the bimmer sites I use dm635.

I've been blessed on the most part with good running Volvo's (except for the current issue w/the XC), but with the BMW it's always something.

    I know how you feel.

I was brickless for about 5 years until I got a cherry 1991 745 with 100k miles early last year. But, did it stop there?? Noooooooo.... I had test drove a 965 and was hooked. so, when I came across a 1993 965 for $1k USD, I was sold. I drove it home and have been gathering parts ever since. But, this one could be a mistake. It had 230k miles when I bought it and was not all that well maintained (what a difference that makes in high miles cars!) and I've already spent $1k in fixes, so it's looking like less of a great deal now. BUT, I love the engine. I don't think I could really go back to never owning another. And yet, I could do without the niggles and the oil drops on my driveway.

OTOH, there is this decent 945 Turbo for sale locally.... someone stop me.

They are addictive. Never tired of driving the 960. In the 12yrs I've driving bricks, been through at least 5 other ones in the past. 2 of which were taken out bt other drivers. Really liked the 84 242t, but it was rear ended and panels buckled.
