Found one today 140-160

Guys,

I found a 140/160 today (actually yesterday now). It is parked behind a building and the body looks very straight. It is a 2 door, and is yellow (looks like original paint). Most cars here in Florida are rust free. If anyone is interested, I will try to find the owner and see if it is available. I didn't look to get the exact number from the car, so I don't know if it's a 140, or 160.

Bill

The 140s are 4 cyl and have a wide grill. The 164s are all 4 door and have
a rectangular grill like a Mercedes or a 240. Longer hood also.

(I should not be doing this, but I can't resist!)

Any idea what year it is? I'm fond of the 140 series up to 1972 when they still had that funky horizontal ribbon speedo. My first car was a 1971 142 and I'd like to relive my glory days of being head-geek at my high school. And yellow is my favorite car color.

But me being in Ohio might prove a bit challenging...

More info would be appreciated, especially for my brick addiction.

The Car is a 1971 model. It was originally a manual transmission car, but was changed over to an automatic when the owner's Mom had her knees replaced. The fluids were drained when the car was parked. The owner still has everything to put the manual tranny back into the car. The conversion was done using all factory parts from a 1973 model car. He said that he would sell the car for $500.00 complete with the manual trans and all the pieces. I can get pictures if you wish.

Ugh. That sounds like a project that I'm not ready for. Thanks for the info, though. I hope it finds a good home.

I think that it will find the scrap yard for its next home. The guy who owns it does not appear to have the moxie to finish any project he starts. The stuff seen at his place of business shows lots of started projects, but none close to being finished. It would be a shame to see this car junked, but that's probably what will happen to it.

I stopped for a closer look. It is a 142 (says so on the front fender), and it is the automatic transmission model. It does have the horizontal speedometer, but the owner was not around. There is a little visible rust, and the drivers front fender has a dent in the front eyebrow. It looks rebuildable, but the license tag expired in 1996, so you would have a complete rebuild in front of you (at least the expensive parts).

There are also 2 of the 2 door wagons that look like the P-1800 there too. Talk about rust buckets.... The hoods are even rusted out on them. This guy owns a welding shop, and obviously is a Volvo fan. Lord knows what is inside the building. I'll watch and try to find him there.

I will check on the car on Monday, and will report back. Like I said, I have only seen the car from 100 or so feet away. It's behind a building, and on a trailer. I will make a point of getting up close and personal tomorrow.

If it's a 2 door it's a 142

Yep, it's a 2 door, and as I said the body looks cherry.
