I think you have to remove the frame around the handle. Then the pin copper color has to be pushed out. They have the spring in stok in the dealer.
If door opener is on right-side door: Tap out pin from bottom and up.
If door opener is on left-side door: Tap out pin from top and down.

Maybe what you are asking is the result of a spring failure like the one on my 1997 965 driver's door.

The handle to be pulled to pull to open the door from the inside has a spring which holds the handle tight to the door. When the spring fails the handle can stay in the "opened" position, or flop around between that and the locked position. Is this the reason you wish to pull the trim panel?

If yes, I have started down that road. What I found is (1) the friendly parts guy at my dealership told me that the usual failure is not the spring but the plastic bit that holds the spring in place. (2) The repair requires replacement of the door handle, $105.xx, which may not match your trim color. (3) Try to live with it.

So we live with it, which has some advantages. If the door is locked, the handle stays in closed position. It is therefore easier to know that the doors are locked. The 965 is our wifemobile, and she's OK with it.

Hope this helps.

Good Luck,

Bob
