Expansion Valve removal ??? warning pics

I have been very busy this weekend so I got a very late start on my A/C repair project. I unbolted the expansion valve fittings but the small capillary line going to the evaporator is still attached. Do I need to remove the evaporator completely? Could I just remove the side cover to access the other end of this capillary line. Any tips on getting out the other end of this line and reattaching the new line from the new expansion valve?

Thanks in advance for the help. This forum is an invaluable source of information.

    "ALL" and "ALL" are usually the wrong choices for "MODEL/YEAR".
    It would really help to know what car this is.
    But the generic answer is, get it out the easiest way you can without breaking it,
    and get the new one in the same way if possible. A gentle pull MIGHT be productive.

      Sorry, the year and model is 1989 Volvo 240. Gentle pull ? I thought that the end of the capillary tube was attached to the incoming line of the evaporator? The new one would have to attached in the same spot?

        That line that goes into the box is a coiled line on the end and held in place by a small spring steel clip. Give it a pull and it will come off and out of there and leave the clip behind usually. On the new one just use a regular hose clamp to attach it to the bottom of low side hose that goes into the evap box. This is how they used to be attached in the old days and it will work fine. Otherwise you need to remove the cover on the end of the evaporator and change it out that way.
