Hi,
I'm looking for a 1990's 240 as a first car. What do you guys think about them. Any comments? What has gone wrong on your 240s?

Watch for rust, do not get an automatic. Other than that you will never find a safer, more reliable car, ever.

If it is your first car, ever; find the local Porsche club and run in the Autocross with them. Get one of their top guys to ride with you and give you pointers. (If they give you any slack tell them you run the same brake system!) The autocross will be the best thing you can do for yourself!
