940 towing a boat 900

I have a 1991 940 wagon and live in Los Angles and would like to tow a Wahoo 18ft boat to Connecticut. Can it handle an 18ft 1500lb boat (Whaler like) 375lb motor, tandem trailer around 900lbs for a total of about 300lbs. Is this crazy or doable if I go 55 the whole way. Fortunately its not too hilly and its late summer. I think I could drive only during daylight. The car is running great New head gasket and pump and timing belt. Just a leaky oil seal. Has anyone done this happily?

Your owners manual shows the following:
Trailers without brakes: max 1540 lbs
Trailers with brakes: max 3300 lbs using 2 inch ball and genuine Volvo hitch
or max 2000 lbs using 1-7/8 ball
The Volvo hitch bolts directly to the frame and is of good quality. If you do this, you'll have to shut off the lockup overdrive using the shifter switch. Use all synthetic fluids in engine and tranny and make sure the cooling system is in good shape. See the manual.
