Anybody have an inexpensive source for front wheel bearings? Unbelievably, at the source I found it's around $60 per side!!!!
thanks

Any local bearing or transmission supply place? That's where I got my front bearings. You'll need the part number although some can look it up...

Have you tried Autohaus AZ?

They have SKF for a 240 for $25 a side.

Howdy,

All 444, 445, 544, 122S, and P1800 models from 1950-1973 use the same front wheel bearings.

Visit www.rockauto.com. Search their catalog for 1966 volvo 122s. Drill down until you find the wheel bearings.

Bearing Cup, Inner: TIMKEN Part # 15245, 2 required; $3.04
Bearing Cup, Outer: TIMKEN Part # 09195, 2 required; $3.49

Front Inner Bearing: TIMKEN Part # 15112, 2 required; $14.95
Front Outer Bearing: TIMKEN Part # 09074, 2 required; $8.84

Front Oil Seal: TIMKEN Part # 224045, 2 required; $3.66 (odd listing, may be out of stock)
Front Oil Seal: BCA/NATIONAL Part # 224045, 2 required; $5.76

OR

Front Wheel Bearing Kit: SKF Part # 273160; $49.89

As thorough as most of their listings are, there is no mention of whether a "kit" is for both sides or whether two are required.

OR

Just take the Timken numbers to your local auto parts house.

Thanks - I'm trying rockauto, the TIMKEN route.
Unfortunately "Farmboy's" lead on Autohaus AZ was for one side only, not both, otherwise I would have tried them - like he says, they're SKF.
Bearing houses around here I checked were expensive, almost twice rockauto.

For future needs, if anyone here knows of a reasonably priced bearing house in the NYC area, please let me know.

Hello,

You will need to order 2 of the 273160 to do both sides.

The SKF kit is complete and even comes with a new cotter pin and seal.

However, I do not like the lip seal that is provided as the grease seal. This is a shame, because the kits used to come with the good OEM felt seal. And lately, the SKF kits are coming with some Koyo bearings in SKF boxes instead of all SKF bearings.

That's good to know. But then what's your source? Bulk from a bearing house? Volvo? Where I am I haven't been able to find a bearing house that stocks these.

Hello,

I usually buy them from a local wholesaler that deals directly with a Timken warehouse.

I buy ten sets at a time and they have to special order them for me and it takes 3-4 weeks and I just re-order them last week as I only have the races right now.
