Power available with a generator 120-130

Guys,

How much power is available running an original 68 generator with new brushes? I'm trying to figure out if I can hard wire my GPS charger into the car and not run into problems with power. I know the generator is a little underpowered, but just how underpowered?

Also, do y'all think I can run an Cig- adapter (for the GPS) off the cig lighter on the wagon? Or am I asking for trouble trying that.

Matt

    Matt;

    Generators are rated at 30 Amps...but that rating is under ideal test conditions, including elevated RPMs...and doesn't take into account an old vehicle whose connections may have some resistance due to corrosion...

    ...on the other hand, a cell or GPS charger takes so little power, that as a general rule, it wont be an issue adding these practicly miniscule loads to a generator powered system.

    Cheers

      the generator current output is rpm dependent nothing at idle. the alternator conversion is painless and inexpensive with a range of output currents to satisfy your electronic toys.

    Unless your generator is dying you should be able to do it just fine. BUT it may be a problem
    if you SERIOUSLY need to charge it when the car is not running. Overnight it could draw enough
    to make starting hard. You could do like I do with my cel phone charger - plug it in when I am
    driving and unplug it when I shut down.
