In tank fuel pump 900 1994

Hi all,
I need to test the intank fuel pump for 94 940 turbo. Question is that if I just run the intank pump, should I see a stream of fuel from the fuel return line in the engine compartment.
Thanks
RAM

No, the pre-pump will not make enough pressure to open the bypass on the FPR.The buzzing in the tank test will not indicate if a hose or connector is broken in the tank.

Disconnect the feed line from the rear of the main pump, extend it and direct it into a catch can.Power the pre-pump and close the end of the hose with a finger. You should feel some pressure.Open the hose, there should be a large stream of gas.

Not to evade answering the question but if the intank pumpm is functional you can simply remove the gas cap with the car running and put your ear to the opening and hear it. Very distinctive buzzing noise. More audible when almost empty.
