Volvo Touch-up Paint Set Instructions

Today the touch up paint I ordered from teh dealer came in. It has wierd instructions, I attached a scan of them below. And the bottles are wierd, the paint bottle has a foam thingy on top. And it came with some clear coat too.

Please help me decipher these instructions. Here is the way I understand them:

1. Temperature must be between 5 and 35°C.
2. Wash car.
3. Apply base (colour) coat to the scratch.
4. Wait 10 minutes.
5. Put a bit of water on the foam thing on teh base coat bottle.
6. Rub that wet foam thing on the paint you just applied to get it to be flush with the existing paint.
7. Rinse the foam thing.
8. Wait 10 minutes again.
9. Temperature must be between 5 and 35°C.,
10. Apply clear coat.
11. Wait 20 minutes.
12. ????? I don't get it.

My GUESS is that 12 is telling you that it is safe to touch the clear coat
after 20 minutes and that 2 days later you rub it smooth, maybe with
rubbing or polishing compound

Oh that makes sense. Thanks. BTW, it's for a '91 740.

The last step means to wait at least 20 minutes but not more than 48 hours to buff down the clear coat smooth with the finish. I know from experience that if you wait more than 48 hours, it is very difficult to buff/compound down to be flush.

2017

I would wait the 48 hours before finishing the touch up repair. At 48 hours or more I would sand the repair bump flat with a 1200 to 1800 sanding block (be gentle sand just enough to get repair bump flat with the surrounding finish). You don't want to damage the clear coat on the surrounding paint. Now use a bit of rubbing compound to restore the gloss. If done correctly only you will know where you repaired the chip or scratch.
