Replacement high pressure FI fuel line...hard or soft? 700

Forum;

...the nice gentlemen at the shop offered to locate a fuel leak and did: Pinhole in pressurized (rubber) feedline from pump, so they offered to replace it...I told them it MUST be high pressure type...knowing that normal, low pressure line is not suitable for the fuelrail pressure...they had to go and get some line off the reel from the parts store...when he came back, he said he asked for high pressure type, but I didn't see any markings on it confirming it was high pressure type, and hose felt (too) soft to the touch (I was able to squeeze it just about shut)...this just doesn't feel right to me...I'm leary...last time I got high pressure hose from the reel, it was just about impossible to squeeze at all...I believe the hose they put on there is still low pressure type hose which WILL fail under the fuelrail pressure...

Question to the experienced: Is it possible that there is high pressure suitable hose that can be squeezed to nothing like that, or does this pretty much confirm that its low pressure suitable hose only, which needs to be replaced?

TIA for opinions

    Don't trust any un-marked hose,it is probably not suitable.A hydraulic shop will have the proper hose.

    I have seen high pressure fuel line that is very flexible and has the appearance common rubber fuel hose, sold at Napa.

      Howdy Ron,

      Therefore, engineers assert that the best choice for automotive fuel line hose applications today is fuel injection SAE 30R9 hose. For independent service centers, it is the best choice to help reduce comebacks and for high performance trouble-free service in a changing fuel environment.

      That was taken from this document.

      SAE 30R9 is the spec you are looking for. It is a fabric reinforced hose with a burst pressure of 900psi. If you have any doubt about the hose supplied, ask for SAE 30R9 at the local auto parts house. Well, that would be good for a laugh or two but not likely to produce results. ;-)

      Where I found the standard
      Where I found the description. Midway Auto Supply has it in three sizes. Just click "Thermoid" at the top of that page.

      Mr. Shannon DeWolfe -- I've taken to using mister because my name misleads folks on the WWW. I am a 52 year old fat man. ;-)
