Crank Pulley Key source 700 1987

The crank pulley on my B230 has a "key" that fits in the sprocket groove. It must have sheared off. Is there a source for the small steel key? The pulley appears to to be fine otherwise? Is this an item readily available from ??????? Thanks in advance.

The B230 crank sprocket has an integral key locking it to the shaft, and a "nub" that engages a slot on the rear pulley face (see picture).

The slot on back side of the sprocket is for the locating tab on the rear dished washer, which has a timing notch to align with a ridge on the seal carrier plate.

The sprocket "nub" can get sheared off if the pulley comes loose from insufficient torquing — 44ft lbs plus an additional 60° of bolt rotation.

44ft lbs plus an additional 60° of bolt rotation

Bruce, I hate to ask this, but is this torque spec the absolute be-all and end-all factory-specification-by-the-engineers final and absolute torque spec for the crank pulley bolt? And on all B230F's, all years?

I'm not second guessing your guru-ness, but I just want to be really sure. Sorry for jacking this topic.

Thanks.

Not quite. I should have said 45 ft lbs plus 60°. That's the "Green Book" spec for all B230F/FT.

For the earlier B21/23 it's a straight 122 ft lbs.

I hijacked the pics from FCP's website.

Thank you but the key is on the pulley not the sprocket.

Sorry but there is no separate key for the pulley, just the recess on the back side, where the sprocket nub locks into it.

Crank Pulley Key source 700 1987

Hello,

The only easy way to retify your problem is to get a replacement crank gear.

The problem is common enough for Scantech to make one, but I would suggest a good used original or a new original Volvo part.

Usually any good local hardware/fasterner shop has the right size. Or tractor supply place. But the question would be, why did it shear?

Thank you for the response.I would imagine the key sheared from fatique or possibly previous owner error. The rubber on the pulley is in good shape so I'll try your sources.
