rack swap 200

Is it possible to replace the steering rack in a 1987 240 Volvo with one from a 1993 240?

Yes either the Cam or ZF type rack will interchange and work fine, just get all the mounting hardware for the one you want to mount on your car. Dan

If the rack types are the same there should be no problems swapping them. You'll find the rack type number on a sticker in the trunk. Lift the lid and look towards the front of the trunk on the right side. It may work even if the racks are different but it would be wise to cross reference the tie rod ends to be sure they're compatible with the strut receptacle.

"...it would be wise to cross reference the tie rod ends to be sure they're compatible with the strut receptacle."

All 2/7/9 tie rod ends are the same except for the threads on the tapered part. There are both coarse and fine threaded ends. I don't remember the exact size, but the difference is obvious.

The TR ends don't have any bearing on rack types/makes.
