Not Shifting into 4th gear.... 900 1991

1991 940SE with 275K miles-original engine/trans.
Car is not shifting from 3rd to 4th gear. If I accelerate slowly from a stop, it may shift properly into 4th eventually.
Any suggestions on things to check or try before I look at new trans.

Sounds like the classic OD solonoid problem. Just went through that on my 92 with 231K miles. Check the FAQ's. I replaced the OD relay. When that did not fix it I replaced the solonoid itself. Or you can install the blanking plate from IPD.
