142 vs 164 dashboard fit 140-160 1971

I suspect that they're the same but can anyone confirm that the dashboard and underdash (including heater fan assembly) are the same from a 142 and 164 of the same year (1971)? Both cars are MT. They look the same and I can't imagine that the width would be any different. Has anyone taken the dash off before and can offer a couple tips to make it easier? There's nothing in the workshop manual or Chilton's about it.

As far as I've read, the 164 is different in length, but not width.

I'm pretty sure they are the same. I have a 140 dash I plan to put in my 69 164.
I think you mostly need to remember to unhook EVERYTHING. While you are in there is a good time to check and lube the heater fan.
The speedo may have a slightly different ratio but if you use your old panel that won't be a problem.
