Any body know what seatbelts came in 1970...did they have a retractor, or did they just hang there next to the door?

Best suggestions for easy to utilize replacements? Mine look like spaghetti.

Skandix offers a replacement retractable seat belt for $80. (each). I have not tried them but I think I'm considering buying a pair for my 164. Has anyone used them yet?

There's a nice set of retractables on ebay right now.

Upgrading is easy - early body is already prepped for them.

My '70 did not have retractable belts.
However, I updated them to retractables from either a '71 or '72.
I prefer the retractables because they are neater when not in use and I also find them more comfortable to use, for instance when streching over toward the passenger door or glovebox.

I also have a used set of retractables from a '72. They're not perfect, but if you will be re-webbing anyway, you may want to consider the retractable belts. Send me an e-mail if you want more details.

I might have a decent set in the 70 I'm working on, I will not be using them once the 71e gets put into it. Send me a message through the brickboard If interested and I'll see what shape they are in, I won't want much for them. Not sure if they are still in the car, its just a rolling shell but they might be in one of a couple boxes of parts it came with. Do you need fronts and rears?

The original seat belts are non-tractable and can be re-webbed.

Volvo offered a kit that updated the non-retractable belts with a retractable system, but unfortunately, they are no longer available from Volvo.

I recommend re-webbing as long as the latching mechanism is working correctly.

There should be several places that offer the service, but be sure they have the right equipment.

The shop I use has special sewing machines that produce a special pattern that has been scientifically tested to be extremely strong and I believe this is stardard pattern that is used by the seat belt industry.
